Finding out traveling, sightseeing, and blogging is more of a challenge than I
anticipated so I'm gonna recap events. We did the Terror Dactyl ride Thu 7/7 as you've
all seen on You Tube. They allow you to go as many times as you want but
we settled on one time. A young boy of about 12 who had gone before us
returned to go a second time.Next took the Cave of the Winds tour quite fascinating
and very beautiful. Video posted on my You Tube account. Had planned to do
the Bat-a-pult zip ride but was tired at that point and it was quite warm so we
decided to skip it.
Next day Fri 7/8 took the Cog Railway ride up to the top of Pikes Peak at
an elevation of 14, 115 feet to summit (8.9 miles) It's a beautiful scenic narrated
ride to the top. When reaching the top you exit train and look around take pictures
browse gift shop before reboarding for return trip. The high elevation results
in thin air and I began to feel light headed so I didn't wander very far from train.
Alec had gone off taking pictures and when he returned he said he had passed
out and fell resulting in some cuts and scrapes and smashing the glass on
his I-phone.
Saturday July 9. We had originally planned to go to Albuquerque to take
the Sandia Tram Ride but because of what happened at Pikes Peak decided
against it. We then drove to Carlsbad, NM and the next day Sunday 7/10
did the toured Carlsbad Caverns. We decided to take the self guided tour a
very steep total of 2.4 miles. It is a very comfortable average 56 F. There
are hand rails through out the hike some times on both sides and strategically
placed lighting. At the end of the hike you wind up in the big room which
is fantastic. There is a souvenir section. There is 2 ways out, 1 via elevator
to the mail building which I took. The line was quite long and one of the
rangers said 30 min wait so Alec decided to walk out, I waited only 10 mins
and go to entrance 10 mins before he did but he has one of those fit bit devices and
is in competition with someone to walk the most. At home he often
times walks to work a distance of 9 miles each way.
I have posted 2 video's on You Tube Cave of the Winds
and Cog Railway and as soon as I can I'll post Carlsbad.
